In addition to our school assembly shows, The Story Ship offers three digital storytelling projects or residences for teachers and students. Each project is broken down into a series of workshops. The workshops are perfect for Arts Integration Teacher Training.

In fact, we recommend that teachers participate in training during students residencies so they can continue to offer the finished projects (Podcast, Animations, and Storytelling Apps) to their students for years to come. The project tracks offered are:

Audio Storytelling Podcast

Teachers and students create their very own storytelling podcast with original audio stories set to music and sound effects. Visit the Story Ship podcast on iTunes, Google, iHeart Radio, or any of your favorite podcast outlets to hear stories created by kids from around the United States.

Or click the video below to find us on YouTube. Click here to get a list and description of each workshop offered in this residency track.

Create An Animated Music Video

(With Green Screen)

Our “Animated Music Video Residency” is a fun filled 5 day program where students create an animated music video based on poems they have written. They can also use poems or songs by other beloved children’s poets. Sean brings everything needed including a digital studio, green screen, cameras, lights and microphones.

Students explore poetry through the creation of a music video animation. Participants first examine the basic building blocks of poetry including, repetition, rhyme, assonance, consonance and alliteration.  Then Sean and the kids set the poems to music. The kids learn the song and record an audio track.

After teaching the kids choreography to the song, he films them performing in front of a green screen. Lastly, students are introduced to the postproduction process where they learn how mathematics, art, science and music all play an important role in the production of animated shows and music videos. This residency has curriculum connections with math, science, literature, reading and art.

You can also have your students create a historical social studies adventure. Here students created a time machine to go back into history and interview famous people that changed the world.

Story Book App

Teachers and students build their very own storytelling app with stories illustrations, animation, sound effects and music. Storybook apps can be adopted for any curriculum connections the school wishes. Watch video below to see a sample.

Workshop Residency Structure

The projects are broken into workshops. This allows your school to focus funds on their specific needs. You can select a path directed at either teacher training, artist student interaction or a combination thereof. You can also skip workshops in areas where teachers are already proficient and target areas that best suit your needs.

Duration

Each workshop is flexible in time ranging from 45 to 50 minutes long to accommodate the school's scheduling needs.

Virtual & In Person

Each workshops is offered virtually and in person. We highly recommend selecting virtual workshops to cut down on the cost.

Pricing

All workshops are $250 per session

(Add $125 per night for hotel and mileage at .60 per mile for in person residences.)

Tech Requirements

Schools must go through a technical evaluation at the time of booking to access computer hardware, software, and audio visual needs. After the evaluation schools are given suggestions for updating if needed any equipment, apps or software.
